About West America Civic Platform

Mission:
West America Civic Platform (WACP), aka West Platform, is a council of volunteers who regularly meet to serve as the central communicating, coordinating, convening advisory, and resource body for the Hizmet volunteers in the Western United States.

What we do?
1- We offer educational opportunities to our network for increasing professionalism in the areas of leadership, governance, and public relations.
2- We regularly assess the governance, transparency, and accountability of our network of organizations to improve their performance and efficiency.
3- We support our community by developing best practice sharing and cooperation opportunities.
4- We serve as a communication hub among the Hizmet volunteers in the Western United States.

Our Approach:
1- Our meetings convene every two months.
2- Executives of the local Hizmet related institutions and elected representatives of local Hizmet volunteers attend our meetings. These elected representatives either could or could not be official board members of the local institutions. Additionally, general coordinators of main Hizmet areas like education, humanitarian relief, and dialog are regular attendees of these meetings.
3- At our meetings, we strongly suggest and try to ensure the 2/3 of the attendees to be non-paid members of the Hizmet related institutions.
4- The attendees of these meetings signed a Memorandum of Understanding that shows the decisions of these meetings are not obligatory and not binding. Each member institution or local Hizmet community is governed by their respected Board of Governors in accordance with the federal and state laws, and their by-laws.
5- We elect four people to represent us along with the Chairman of the WACP in the North America Civic Platform. Again, our relationships with other platforms and institutions are non-binding.
6- To increase cooperation and experience sharing, we currently developed the following committees:
a) Education and Mentoring Committee
b) Executive Committee
c) Governance, Compliance, and Accountability Education and Training Committee
d) Human Resources Committee
e) Finance Committee
f) Communications Committee
These committees consist of members and non-members of the WACP and experts.
7- From time to time, we invite experts to get advice or representatives from other institutions like Alliance for Shared Values, Embrace Relief, etc. to create collaboration opportunities.
8- Our platform members are the representatives of Hizmet organizations in following regions:
a) Southern California
b) Northern California & Bay Area
c) Arizona
d) Nevada
